As soon as that little stick had two pink lines I was racking my brain on the best way to let everyone know what was changing in our lives. If you know me at all, you know that I do not like being the center of attention for anything and avoid it at all costs. We came up with a picture would be a good way to let our families know. Then what kind of picture? We started to think of things that made us who we are. I am an avid running and always have an extra pair of running shoes with me at all times, just in case. Michael loves hiking and camping and wears his chacos even in the dead of winter. We then thought lets take a picture of our feet, and add another little pair of shoes. This began the search for baby shoes. This was the most difficult part, because we didn't know any little running shoes and they do not make baby chacos. We were stuck. Then when we were just walking around Mast General Store (which we do often for fun) we ran across these John Deer boots. My husband loves John Deer and his truck at the time was decked out in John Deer, they were perfect!
Now how and when to give them the photo? We planned a weekend to go and see parents and grandparents after three months a long. Unfortunately, the weekend before we were going to make the journey to North Carolina a terrible accident and we lost my father-in-law. We rushed up the NC and mourned the loss of our beloved father. After the funeral, all of our families were together and it seemed like that appropriate time for good news. We put the pictures in envelopes and Michael gave a heartfelt speech about how much we love our family.
It took longer for them to understand the picture than I thought it would, but once they figured it out smiles all around! God chose to take one life, but give us a beautiful little one.
And so the journey begins...
