The Fence is Complete!

Our beautiful fence is finally complete! We (Michael) finished it Saturday night!

And this is how Grace feels about it... Just Kidding!

We are overjoyed with how it turned out! I think it is very nice looking. Doesn't distract you or cut us off and matches well with the style we are going for. (rustic)

Addis has already spent a lot of hours in her new "room".

We are so happy that today is the first day of spring and we are loving the weather that came along!

Welcome To Our Home (Part 1)

I thought I would let yall into our lives a little more, which means inviting you into our home.

I know you have seen little bits and pieces from all of our home improvement, but now you can see the big picture. (you can read more about our home and improvements here and here)

First I should tell you I LOVE looking at houses! I could watch HGTV all day long. I am not much of a decorator, but I love seeing a house transform. I have had the most fun seeing our house come together and become a home. Even though we still have many more projects, this is what our home looks like today. ( ps Grace was napping while these pictures were being taken, so it doesn't always look like this)

Welcome.

This is your view as you walk in the front door, bedrooms to the right, living room to the left and dining room straight ahead.

This is where we live. We hangout in this room a lot of the time!  Eventually we would love to have built-in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace, but that is down the road. We also want hardwood floors, but honestly we have loved having carpet while Grace was learning to crawl and walk. So we are holding off on installing for a while.

This is Grace's little play corner. I routinely exchange out toys from her room to keep her occupied and not bored.

This is the other side of the living room looking back at the entrance.

This is where we eat all of our meals. Hopefully one day where the bay window is currently we want to install french doors to exit to the backyard. As of right now we do not have a back door leading to the yard, only to the garage.

Here is where I do all the cooking. My kitchen. I love my kitchen. I actually like that you can not see it from the living room, because I can leave my dirty dishes in the sink and forget about them!

Other side of the kitchen.

The kitchen leads right into the mudroom/laundry room. We have not yet painted this room, but I am thinking of a light grey?

Opposite side of the room and my chalkboard wall, that I love. The door beside the chalkboard wall leads into my pantry.

Well thats it for now. Hope you enjoyed part 1 of the house tour!

Home Remolding and What We Have Done

I've realized it has been a little while since I have updated you on what we have done with our home improvements. So let me start from the beginning...

Stay tuned to see what we do next!!!

Weekend Update

Sorry I am a weekend behind updating.

Two weekends ago it was raining and cold outside, so we decided since we had to stay inside... to paint our master bathroom. Before we moved in our house my wonderful husband painted close to the entire house! He painted ceilings, trim, and every room except laundry room and our master bathroom. We had already bought the paint, but were originally waiting till we could up date the room a little more. However that will just have to wait till another date, but at least we do not have to stare at UGLY wallpaper everyday!

The BEFORE:

The AFTER:

Yes I know we still have an ugly yellow countertop, but the walls are now pretty! Now comes the fun part... shopping for accessories!!! I will be looking for oil rubbed bronze accessories because we are slowing changing everything to match. (we have gold, silver, white and oil rubbed bronze now. I am ready for some consistency.) I want to go for a relaxing theme. What do you think? Have any ideas for me? Light fixture? Toilet paper holder? Trashcan? etc.

THANKS!

Fun Had By All!

Our weekends are always interesting and this one was no exception! It began Saturday morning with me headed out the door quite early (for a Saturday) to a big consignment sale in Greenville. I had been planning on going for a while and was really looking forward to going. My wonderful husband was gracious enough to keep Grace so I could have some "me" time. I arrived just in time and began shopping! (one of my favorite activities) Sadly, I was unable to find a lot of goods. I did however buy more hair bows!!

When I got home the hubby was ready to get outside, and so was I. It was time for a family run! We loaded up Baby Grace and Addis (the doggy) and went for a 5.5 mile run (my FAVORITE activity!) It was a beautiful day and felt so good to be running a shorts and a tee-shirt.

When we got home it was time to get to work. Since we (and I mean Michael) pressure washed the house the other weekend the porch was now ready to be painted. We began sanding, scraping and prepping the porch for paint. Then Sunday we began the painting process. Actually the painting went a lot quicker than we expected.

We had two special helpers. Aren't they cute?

Can you tell that we painted it? Doesn't it look better!?!?

One day we will have all these outside projects done?

We Love Weekends!

We love weekends at the McKenzie house! Mostly because Michael aka: Daddy & Husband, gets to spend more time with Grace and I! Usually we do not have plans, but always end up doing something. This weekend was different... We had been planning for quite some time to go down to Columbia for someone very specials birthday! Grace's friend Olen Ray Bozard was turning ONE! We have known the Bozard family for almost 4 years. We have grown close over time, I even lived with them while Michael was working in Anderson. They are very dear to our hearts. We would never have missed Olen Ray's first birthday! He was super cute smashing his cake! I don't think Grace could get enough of him either, she was very curious whenever he was doing anything.

Sunday we still managed to get in some more yard work. (I know it seems like that is all I talk about.) I was too tired to do any, but that did not stop my wonderful husband. (One of these days I will show you a completed picture of our beautiful new yard.)

Grace and I worked really hard too, no not really. We just played on the porch and watched and tried to catch some vit. D!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend too!

Our "Eventful" Weekend

We might not have plans for the weekend, but somehow it NEVER ends up being relaxing and restful. BUT always fun!

Our weekend began with Grandpa coming for a visit! Grandmommy was having a girls weeked, so he decided to come and stay with us!

Our Saturday morning began with a wonderful breakfast of bacon and eggs, sitting around in our pajamas watching TV...

And then quickly became a yard work day.

Now this might look like a small job, but it rapidly turned into quite the big job!

Yes we took down trees, bushes, sticks, and a lot of weeds. We even had to break out the tractor! We are so very thankful for such wonderful neighbors who are willing to help!

Grace and I had to supervise the whole time, of course!

Grace loves being outside, this was the best day she has had in a long time!

Our day ended with a big bomb fire, burgers, and the company of wonderful neighbors and family!

ps. stay tuned to see the pictures of our new yard!

Home Remodeling

As many of you know we bought our first house at the beginning of the summer. I am absolutely in love with our home! We bought it from a sweet 90 year old woman who kept it very clean. The only thing is she also kept it at a 90 year old woman's taste. Needless to say we needed and still need to do a lot of work. Luckily for me I have a very (and I mean VERY) handy husband!

Before we moved in my husband, Michael, painted everything in the house. (Also with the help of his handy brothers and mom) I mean EVERYTHING! He had to start with ripping down wallpaper and then priming and painting. He painted every room, every ceiling, every molding and all the windows! Unfortunately, I could not help because I was pregnant at the time. I know, I know bummer. :) Painting immediately transformed our home. There was pretty bad eighties wallpaper in every room and it immediately dated everything. Taking down the wallpaper also took out a lot of the old lady smell. (No old ladies don't "smell" but you know what I mean)

Michael also took down all the ugly yellow colored light switch plates and sockets and replaced them with these beautiful white ones. He also put dimmer switches in the living room, dining room and all the bedrooms. I can not tell you how much this has been helpful in Grace's room especially or in the living room while nursing in the middle of the night. I can not express to you how much they changed the rooms immediately! ( I like instant gratification)

The next project we (and when I say "we" I really mean Michael) tackled is the guest bathroom. It began as a room with eighties wall paper again, old coming up lamenate floor, and no character. Michael ripped up the floor, painted the walls, put down this beautiful tile floor, added bead board, base molding and a chair rail. It completely changed the look of the room. Do not get me wrong there are still more things to do like: change the hardware, light fixture, and add towel racks. I love this bathroom now! It makes me happy every time I go in there to give Grace a bath.

Now for the most recent project... My husband gave me the best Christmas present ever! I really mean ever too! I do not know if he will ever be able to top this one. He made me a pantry!!! We had a room in our garage that was only accessible through the garage. He closed off the entrance to the garage and put a door in our mudroom (which is right off the kitchen). Then in order to make the pantry useable he built up the floor height, moved an air went, and built shelves. To make my pantry even more luxurious, he put an outlet in there! Which means I no longer have to display on my counters our ugly appliances (microwave, toaster, toaster oven, bread maker etc.) It was a lot of work, but he is amazing and it looks and functions beautifully now!

This is Michael building up the floor.

This is the finished pantry with a lot of extra room!

I will keep you updated on our home remodeling, but I hope this holds you for a little bit.

Things For The Nursery

After I cleaned all of Grace's pacifiers I wanted something to put them in for easy access. (Which you DEFINITELY want to be able to have a clean pacifier at all times!) I came up with this easy and cute holder. This is just an old mason jar that I already had, a napkin from a fifty cent pack from Walmart, and a ribbon that was on a gift. Easy enough and super cute!

Another easy super cute thing are these frames that I filled with napkins.

I found two dressers on craigslist for $100. I was thrilled! They were in good shape, but I wanted them white, my wonderful husband sanded them down and painted them white. I ordered these super cute pink pulls from Amazon.

Our new home

Even before we got married I was looking forward to having a home of my very own! I had dreamed of looking for a home and then turning it from a house into a home. To make it a home by decorating, by the smell of homemade food and the sound of children running and laughing.
My dream has come true, thanks for my generous and wonderful husband! My husband, Michael, got a new job in the upstate of SC. I immediately got online and began looking at houses, of course all the houses I like were very expensive. We drove up to the upstate on numerous weekends looking and the area and dreaming. We met up with three differently realtors and looked at four houses, the forth house now being ours! Michael happened to see this house online one night and he was very excited about it and saw a lot of potential (you can only imagine, we bought it from a 90 year old lady) He immediately called the realtor and within hours she had an offer on the house. We drove up to look and it and put an offer on it as well and then shortly after we found out that the house was ours!
As soon as we got the keys, Michael began painting everything in the house, and I mean everything. All the wallpaper is gone and everything is painted now. I had so much fun picking out the paint colors and dreaming of what I wanted the rooms to look like. I quickly found out that a house is a never ending project, but nevertheless it is all ours! Let the journey begin...
Hi! I'm Katie. Wife to Michael. Mom to Grace, David Michael & Emma. Christ Follower. Runner. Stay at home mommy.
